Why the Change with the Xcel Energy Center Program?

Hello Xcel Volunteers!  In the past, you would use this site to see a listing below, which would help you find a listing of the future events.  However, since there has been a management change from "Centerplate" concessions to "Levy" concessions, several major changes were worked into the new contracts for this year.

Many of these changes make it difficult for Central Lutheran to endorse this program as being beneficial for our families.  One of the major components of the new contract is the removal of a minimum pay level for each shift that is worked by a parent volunteer.  Instead, we are given a percentage of the total net sales of the event.  Those of us who have volunteered before know that there are some nights that bring very little sales to the booth in which we work.  Therefore, it is conceivable that we would be paid commission rates close to zero if the sales for the evening are low.  Therefore, we as the administration, cannot subject our parents to a contractual obligation of serving while the conditions do not guarantee a reasonable wage.  Therefore, Central Lutheran School will not sign a contract with Levy based upon what was given to us this year.

However, there are a couple of different opportunities that exist that we can pursue rather quickly.  Please be patient as we work through this process to find other tuition support programs.

  • One idea that exists is to use a SCRIP program that moves the excess funds raised from each sale and directs these proceeds to apply to the student account of the family as they sell.
  • Another idea would be for us to attach our volunteer group to the similar groups from Concordia Academy as the work at the Excel Energy Center under their umberella of parent volunteers.  The funds raised would then be sent to Central Lutheran and applied to the student accounts of the workers.

In addition, if you still want to work with Levy at the Excel Energy Center, we can get you trained to work.  Please send an e-mail to volunteers@clssp.org and please include the date and time that you want to work, as well as what kind of credit you want to have.  If you are working to pay off your tuition bill, please indicate "DOLLARS".  If you are fulfilling a portion of your 25 hours of volunteer time, please indicate "VOLUNTEER".

Also, please keep the following in mind:

New Volunteers:  You must complete the general training course in order to work at Xcel.  Contact the Volunteer Coordinator for future dates if you have not gone through the training course.

Experienced Volunteers:  If you have not worked in more than 1 calendar year, you may need to go through the general training course in order to work.  Contact me for more information.

Managers:  In order to manage, you either need to complete the full training course (new managers) or the refresher (experienced managers).  Contact me for more information.

Watch for the changes on this webpage as we will update periodically with more information as we receive it.  Thanks and have a great year!
