William R. Jayson Scholarship

 

A gift of $1.25 million has been donated for scholarships to Central Lutheran School, Saint Paul, Minnesota, from the estate of William R. Jayson.  Mr. Jayson grew up near downtown St. Paul and received a full scholarship to attend Trinity Lutheran School, an experience which he credits for changing his life.  A single man with no children, he wanted to use his money so that other children with financial need could receive the kind of education that he received.  His search for a deserving school led him to CLS, a school descended from Trinity.  Mr. Jayson's generous gift will build on the existing scholarship program at Central Lutheran School. 

 

The William R. Jayson Scholarship will provide approximately $60,000 per year for scholarships.  Mr. Jayson's gift was designated to be used for those students who apply, who are most in need, regardless of where they live.

 

Mr. Jayson's generous gift provides important funding for the scholarship program at CLS, which annually awards over $100,000 in scholarships.

 

CLS continues to need the support of all of its generous donors to keep Christian education affordable for our families.

For many years, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans donated millions of dollars to Lutheran schools through the Giving Plus program.  As you know, this program ended in January 2010.  The new program is called Thrivent Choice. While the money Thrivent has available to donate through the Thrivent Choice program is significantly less than through the Giving Plus program, ALL donations are helpful in our efforts to accomplish the goals and objectives of Central Lutheran School.  All Thrivent members who are eligible to designate Thrivent Choice dollars should have received information from Thrivent during the summer.

Here’s how Thrivent Choice works:

* Thrivent has estimated the designated Choice Dollars you will have available to direct in 2010.  Actual Choice Dollars are designated to you when premiums are paid, contract value is determined quarterly, and Thrivent Financial volunteer leadership is identified each year.

* You can help direct your Choice Dollars starting now to Lutheran organizations nationwide. (Our hope is that you would choose Central Lutheran School!)

 

Act now! Take these three quick, easy steps to help direct these Choice Dollars:

**Step 1 – Visit thrivent.com/choicedollars to begin.  Or, if you prefer, call 1-800-847-4836 and say, “Thrivent Choice.”  

**Step 2 – Scroll down to “How Do I Direct My Designated Choice Dollars?” and follow the instructions.  Very important for Central Lutheran School:  When you “Search Organizations,” please type in the city as Saint Paul, not St. Paul.  

**Step 3 – Choose where you would like to direct your designated amount of Choice Dollars.
